The $1 Billion Secret: Apple to Use Google Gemini AI to Power Next-Gen Siri

According to Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to launch a far more advanced version of Siri in 2026, with a customised Google Gemini model driving its core functionality and licensing fees of around $1 billion a year. The report says Siri will still use some of Apple’s on‑device models, but will rely heavily on Gemini models operating within Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure to handle summariser and planner functions.

These capabilities are central to Siri’s new architecture, enabling it to synthesise information and execute complex, multi‑step tasks, with Gemini expected to serve as the engine behind Apple’s autonomous AI ambitions. The piece notes that Apple will pay Google around $1 billion annually for this collaboration, while still pursuing an eventual in‑house model and continuing to develop a cloud‑based foundational model of one trillion parameters for consumer applications as early as 2026.
