BOOKING [.]com said hackers may have accessed information related to some travel reservations, though the company has not disclosed how many customers were affected. According to Booking[.]com, the incident involved an unauthorized third party and some of its guests’ booking information, such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, and details shared with accommodations. The company stressed that customer accounts have not been breached and that the issue has been contained.
It said it detected “suspicious activity involving unauthorized third parties being able to access some of our guests’ booking information” and has since updated the PIN numbers for affected reservations and informed customers. Booking[.]com added that no financial or payment information was accessed, and it urged customers to remain vigilant for phishing attempts while emphasising that it will not ask for credit card details by email, phone, WhatsApp, or text message.
