Microsoft Plans to Remove Entra Accounts from Authenticator on Jailbroken Devices

Microsoft is rolling out a security enhancement for its Authenticator app that will automatically wipe Microsoft Entra credentials from devices that are jailbroken or rooted, starting February 2026. The update will apply to both iOS and Android devices, with detection of jailbroken or rooted states that bypass built‑in security restrictions. Once such a device is detected, all existing Microsoft Entra credentials stored on it will be removed to prevent potential compromise.

Administrators won’t need to configure or control this behaviour, as the capability is secure by default, and personal Microsoft accounts will not be affected. Organisations should begin notifying end users about the change to manage expectations and prevent operational disruptions, while policies discouraging jailbreaking and rooting are likely to be considered to align with modern authentication requirements.
