DoJ resentenced former BreachForums admin to three years in prison
According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ), the former BreachForums administrator Conor Brian Fitzpatrick was resentenced to three years in prison. The DoJ says he ran BreachForums, a cybercrime marketplace that traded stolen data, cybercrime tools and other contraband. Fitzpatrick had pleaded guilty in July 2023 to three counts: conspiracy to commit access device fraud, solicitation for the purpose of offering access devices, and possession of child pornography.
He was arrested in March 2023, released on a $300,000 bond signed by his parents, and in January 2024 was sentenced to 20 years of supervised release. The DoJ noted that Fitzpatrick agreed to forfeit more than 100 domain names used to run BreachForums, over a dozen electronic devices tied to the scheme, and cryptocurrency obtained through criminal activities.
BreachForums was launched in 2022 after RaidForums was seized as part of Operation TOURNIQUET, with the site described as a marketplace enabling the sale and exchange of illicitly obtained data.
