MATLAB dev says ransomware gang stole data of 10,000 people

MathWorks disclosed that a ransomware gang stole the data of 10,476 individuals after breaching its network in April, with the company confirming the figure in filings to Maine’s Attorney General and in data breach letters to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

The breach, which disrupted access to services such as MFA, account SSO, the MathWorks cloud centre, file exchange, the license centre and the online store, was first linked to a ransomware incident on 27 May, with the company saying it discovered the intrusion on 18 May. According to the filings, the stolen data could include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security Numbers and other non-U.S. national identification numbers.

MathWorks has not disclosed the name of the ransomware operation behind the breach, and no gang has claimed responsibility, suggesting negotiations or potential ransom payments may be involved. The company notes it was the victim of a ransomware attack, but additional details remain undisclosed.
