The Ten-Year Car: Qualcomm and Google Unveil the Future of AI-Powered Mobility

At CES 2026, Qualcomm announced a deepening of its decade-long alliance with Google to advance software-defined vehicles, in-vehicle agentic AI, and cloud-native development environments. The collaboration centres on integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google’s automotive software stack and cloud capabilities, aiming to help automakers deliver highly personalised, continuously evolving and secure by design intelligent vehicles.

Key areas include a Generative AI approach for mobility, a unified reference platform to align Snapdragon Cockpit and Android Automotive OS roadmaps, and scaling AAOS for SDVs with pre-integrated software to support digital instrument clusters, over-the-air updates and AI-driven fleet insights. Qualcomm will also deliver a Snapdragon virtual system-on-chip on Google Cloud, powered by Google Cloud’s Arm-based Axion processors, enabling cloud-only design and validation of automotive software.

The partners say Project Treble will help automakers receive up to ten years of critical software update support, addressing Android version fragmentation and long-term security challenges. Taken together, the collaboration is pitched as a reference architecture for the future of software-defined vehicles, potentially accelerating innovation across automakers navigating digital transformation.
