Google to Invest $40 Billion in Texas for Next-Gen Cloud and AI Data Centers
Google has announced an expansion of its Texas investment, planning to allocate a further $40 billion by 2027 to build next-generation cloud and AI infrastructure, including new data-centre campuses in Armstrong County and Haskell County, according to Reuters. The move is described as a responsible expansion, with Google unveiling a $30 million Energy Impact Fund to accelerate local energy initiatives.
The plan also includes support for more than 6,200 MW of new renewable generation and capacity through power-purchase agreements, with the forthcoming Haskell County data centre to be built adjacent to a new solar-plus-battery storage facility. On the workforce front, Google and the ALLIANCE electrical training partnership aim to train more than 1,700 apprentices by 2030, and Google says this would more than double Texas’s projected supply of new electricians.
The company states the investment will strengthen the state’s workforce and infrastructure and help preserve the United States’ technological backbone to lead the global future of AI.
