Harvard reports vishing breach exposing alumni and donor contact data
Harvard University reported a vishing breach affecting its Alumni Affairs and Development systems, exposing personal data such as emails, phone numbers, addresses, and donation information of alumni, donors, and some current students and staff. The breach did not compromise Social Security numbers, passwords, or financial data. Harvard has initiated an investigation with cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement, sending breach notifications to affected individuals.
The university advised vigilance against suspicious communications and recommended verifying unusual requests through trusted sources. This incident follows a previous attack by the Cl0p ransomware group, which claimed to have leaked 1.3 TB of data from Harvard.
