OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Unite: Launch Agentic AI Foundation Under Linux
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Unite: Launch Agentic AI Foundation Under Linux reports that the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) is being established as a dedicated fund under the Linux Foundation, with founding members including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Block and additional support from Google, Microsoft, AWS, Cloudflare, Docker and Bloomberg.
The MCP protocol, originally developed by Anthropic, was designed to interconnect disparate applications and retrieve data, and it was immediately adopted by OpenAI and Google, accelerating its use for coordinating diverse tools and reducing latency in agent workflows. With the AAIF, Anthropic has donated the MCP protocol to the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organisation committed to fostering open-source ecosystems, and the foundation will operate as a directed fund within the Linux Foundation.
The initial portfolio also includes OpenAI’s AGENTS[.]md and Block’s Goose project, both donated to AAIF, with governance described as unchanged to preserve community feedback and transparency. According to the Linux Foundation, the AAIF aims to promote technical neutrality, openness and coordinated innovation across the broader AI ecosystem, with ongoing oversight of these initiatives. 10 December 2025
