IE: HSE confirms second ransomware attack but ‘no evidence’ patient data was stolen

According to BreakingNews[.]ie, the Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed a second ransomware attack, but there is no evidence that patients’ data was stolen during the incident. The disruption followed a cyberattack earlier this year that prompted compensation offers to victims, with the agency estimating the cost at €102 million for the May 2021 incident.

It has now emerged that the February attack targeted a third‑party processor and did trigger a data protection breach reported by HSE primary care services in the midlands. The HSE emphasised that there is no evidence of patient data being stolen in the second attack, framing the finding as a claim rather than a confirmed breach. The report notes the acknowledgement came as part of ongoing investigations into the series of disruptions affecting the Irish health service.
