Google to Shut Down Dark Web Monitoring Tool in February 2026

Google has announced that it will discontinue its dark web report tool in February 2026. Scans for new dark web breaches will stop on 15 January 2026, with the feature ceasing to exist effective 16 February 2026. According to Google, the report offered general information but did not provide helpful next steps, and the change aims to focus on tools that give clearer, actionable steps to protect information online.

The company said it will delete all data related to the dark web report once the feature is retired, though users can delete their monitoring profile beforehand by following the steps on the Dark Web report page. The dark web report was unveiled by Google in March 2023 to combat online identity fraud stemming from data breaches and data made available on the dark web, and Google expanded the offering in July 2024 beyond Google One subscribers to all account holders. Google is also urging users to strengthen privacy by creating a passkey and removing personal information from Google Search results.
