Data breach hits ‘South Korea’s Amazon,’ potentially affecting 65% of country’s population

Coupang, South Korea's largest online retailer, has confirmed a data breach affecting 33.7 million customer accounts, prompting an apology from the company. This incident is part of a series of high-profile breaches in South Korea, following similar breaches at SK Telecom and Lotte Card earlier this year. In response, the South Korean government convened an emergency meeting with senior officials.

Reports suggest that no malicious code was found in Coupang's systems, and suspicions are directed towards a former employee, believed to be a Chinese national who has left the country. Police are reportedly close to identifying the perpetrator.
