WhatsApp reaches 1bn passkey users, boosts login security

WHATSAPP has announced that over 1 billion users are now utilizing passkeys for account protection, allowing login via fingerprint, Face ID, or screen-lock codes. The platform also introduced stronger two-step verification, replacing a six-digit PIN with a longer, alphanumeric password to enhance security. Additionally, WhatsApp is providing more caller context for non-contact calls on Android to help users make informed decisions about answering. These updates aim to make account recovery easier and improve resistance against phishing and social engineering attacks.
