FEC takes filing system offline after hacking attempts
The US Federal Election Commission (FEC) took its electronic filing system offline after its website was targeted by hacking attempts, according to an email seen by Reuters. The disruption occurred a week before the 3 November elections.
The FEC said its IT staff were working to restore the system and that users could still search the website for previously filed reports. The agency, which tracks spending by candidates and political committees, declined to comment further. The available information does not say who was behind the attempts or confirm that they gained access to FEC systems.
