EuroFins cancer screening hack far bigger than thought, agency says

On 29 August 2025, DutchNews[.]nl reported that Bevolkingsonderzoek Nederland said the scale of the data theft from the Dutch cervical cancer screening programme is far greater than first reported. Hackers may have accessed the personal and medical details of all 941,000 women who have taken part since 2017. The organisation had previously said data from 485,000 participants had been stolen, but it has now confirmed that at least 715,000 women were affected.

Because it cannot rule out that the entire database was compromised, every woman who has taken part since 2017 will receive a letter in the coming weeks. The disclosure marks a substantial expansion of the breach from the earlier figure and underscores the programme’s broader impact. The news was published by DutchNews[.]nl and cited the agency’s website statement.
