South Korea Warns of State-Backed Watering Hole Attacks

South Korea's government agencies, including the National Intelligence Service, have issued a warning about state-backed cyberattacks targeting citizens and businesses using phishing and watering hole attacks. Phishing methods involve attackers impersonating job applicants or recruiters to deliver malicious links or ZIP files. The more concerning watering hole technique compromises trusted websites to silently infect users without their interaction, exploiting vulnerabilities in security software.

Key risks include theft of personal data, credentials, and corporate information. Recommendations for individuals include updating security software and enabling two-factor authentication, while organizations are advised to implement network segmentation and promote phishing awareness.
