Catching Apple: Google Overhauls Health Connect to Track Alcohol & Medical Symptoms
Google is expanding Health Connect to narrow the gap with Apple’s Health app, adding more granular data-tracking capabilities for alcohol consumption and medical symptoms, according to Android Authority.
In the redesigned interface, the settings have been restructured with “Connected Apps” moved to the top for clearer visibility of data access, and a new “Group View” lets users grant or revoke access for entire data categories such as “Nutrition” or “Sleep.” The update also signals that Health Connect will identify and record various alcoholic beverages and dozens of symptom
fields, alongside existing data like allergy histories and vaccination records, positioning it as a more comprehensive personal health data hub. Health Connect largely acts as a data exchange platform among third‑party apps such as MyFitnessPal, Oura, and Samsung Health, with features taking effect only once developers update their apps. Thanks to Google’s Play System Updates mechanism, these enhancements can be rolled out rapidly without waiting for a major Android version release. December 15, 2025. according to Android Authority
