Gcore Radar Report Reveals 41% Surge in DDoS Attack Volumes
Gcore has disclosed findings from its Q1-Q2 2025 Radar report, released on 25 September 2025, showing a 41% increase in DDoS attack volumes year on year. According to Gcore, the total number of DDoS attacks rose from 969,000 in H2 2024 to 1.17 million in H1 2025, and the largest attack peaked at 2.2 Tbps in Q1-Q2 2025, surpassing the 2 Tbps peak recorded in late 2024.
The report notes that attacks are becoming longer in duration and more harmful, with application-layer attacks increasing from 28% to 38% between Q3-Q4 2024 and Q1-Q2 2025. It also highlights a shift in targets, with tech and financial services seeing increased activity, while gaming declined, and it states that Hong Kong is now a new threat source accounting for 17% of network-layer and 10% of application-layer attacks. Hosted by Luxembourg-based Gcore, the findings emphasise the need for robust DDoS detection, mitigation, and protection across industries.
