Microsoft Is Discontinuing Outlook Lite: What to Do Next

According to Microsoft, the company has decided to cease development of the lightweight mail client Outlook Lite as of October 6, 2025, and from that date forward users will no longer be able to install it on their devices, with existing users able to continue using it only as it is gradually phased out. Outlook Lite was launched about three years ago to offer a smaller, streamlined, and more responsive mail client for certain regions, in contrast to the standard Outlook which requires more hardware resources.

Following the Lite edition’s release, many users moved away from the full version in favour of the leaner option, though the notice offered no explicit reason for the discontinuation. The notice recommends migrating to the standard Outlook Mobile app, with Android users able to download Outlook Mobile from the Google Play Store and reconnect their email accounts. Those unwilling to switch may opt for other free email clients, with no shortage of alternatives mentioned.
