Sweden’s Power Grid Operator Admits Data Breach Linked to Everest Ransomware Gang

According to Svenska kraftnät, Sweden’s national power grid operator, the organisation confirmed a significant data breach exposing certain information to unauthorised parties, disclosed on 26 October 2025 and linked to the Everest ransomware gang. The breach has not been shown to affect the electricity system, with power transmission and distribution continuing normally.

Cem Göcgoren, Head of Information Security at Svenska kraftnät, said the organisation is conducting a comprehensive investigation to establish what data was compromised and the potential implications. Following the discovery, Svenska kraftnät reported the incident to Swedish police authorities and initiated contact with other government agencies that specialise in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.

The Everest ransomware gang is described as employing double extortion tactics that involve encrypting data and threatening to publish stolen information unless demands are met.
