Google Pixel 10 Adds C2PA Support to Verify AI-Generated Media Authenticity
On 11 September 2025, Google announced that its new Pixel 10 phones support the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard out of the box to verify the origin and history of digital content. To this end, C2PA’s Content Credentials have been added to Pixel Camera and Google Photos apps for Android, designed to provide verifiable provenance for images, videos, or audio files.
The metadata is described as a “digital nutrition label” and can indicate if content was generated using artificial intelligence. Google said the Pixel Camera app achieved Assurance Level 2, the highest rating defined by the C2PA Conformance Program, and noted that this level is currently possible only on the Android platform.
The feature enables on-device trusted time-stamps using a combination of the Tensor G5, Titan M2 security chip, and hardware-backed security features within Android, and it can operate offline with time-stamping to confirm provenance even when offline.
