The September Pixel Drop Is Here, and It’s a Huge One
The September Pixel Drop brings Android 16’s Material 3 Expressive UI to older devices, extending features from the Pixel 10 series to Pixel 6 onward and the Pixel Tablet, effectively letting nearly four years of Pixel models benefit. The update adds live effects on the lock screen, customisable call cards, and a redesigned quick settings panel for easier navigation.
Emoji Kitchen is refined with a streamlined browsing interface and a Favorites feature to help save and locate stickers, while the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will gain Adaptive Audio and Loud Noise Protection, plus call and message responses via gestures. Bluetooth LE Audio Auracast support is expanded to allow two headphone pairs simultaneously and private, QR code–based broadcasts for group listening, with Google even describing silent discos as a potential use.
AI features are central, including on‑device Gboard improvements for real‑time spelling and grammar corrections and adapting messages to tone, alongside a new Androidify tool that creates a personalised Android robot avatar from a selfie.
