iPhone Air 2 Cancelled: Apple Shifts to Split Release Cycle for Foldable iPhone

On 17 November 2025, reports circulating about the iPhone Air 2 suggest the device was never part of Apple’s release schedule for the coming year. According to Mark Gurman, the absence is not due to weak iPhone Air sales nor a six‑month delay, but to a broader shift in Apple’s roadmap to accommodate a new foldable model, with high‑end devices debuting each autumn and standard models following the next spring.

Gurman notes the central upgrade will be a transition to a new 2nm processor—likely an A20 built on TSMC’s N2 process—rather than a major structural overhaul, which is expected to improve battery life. He also discusses the possibility of an ultrawide dual‑camera system being feasible but unlikely, as the camera housing is already cramped and redesigning the module would be an extensive effort for a relatively modest‑selling device.

The suggested timeline foresees a Fall 2026 cadence for iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s first foldable iPhone, followed by a Spring 2027 rollout of standard models such as the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a possible refreshed iPhone Air.
