End of an Era: Apple Has Reportedly Cancelled the Mac Pro Lineup

According to Bloomberg, Apple appears to have abandoned the Mac Pro, with its most powerful workstation last refreshed in 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip and unlikely to receive further updates. Gurman notes that Apple has not only scrapped development of the planned M4 Ultra processor, but also cancelled the corresponding Mac Pro refresh originally set to feature that chip.

As a result, Apple’s next Ultra-class processor will be the M5 Ultra, intended solely for the forthcoming Mac Studio—strongly suggesting that no new Mac Pro will appear in Apple’s 2026 product roadmap. Gurman further cites internal sources who say Apple views the Mac Studio as the “present and future” of its professional desktop strategy. The machine offers formidable computational power in a compact form factor, making it a more compelling target for continued development.

Although Apple has not completely ruled out the possibility of a future Mac Pro, current strategy indicates that the M2 Ultra model may well be the final iteration of the line.
