Beyond SOS: Samsung’s Exynos 5410 Brings 5G Video Calls to the Middle of Nowhere
Samsung has unveiled its latest 5G data modem, the Exynos Modem 5410, manufactured using a 4nm process, which has already entered mass production and is widely expected to become a standard component of next year’s Galaxy S26 series. Its most striking feature is a comprehensive upgrade to satellite communication capabilities, including the ability to conduct video calls directly via satellite.
According to Samsung, the modem supports NB-IoT NTN, LTE DTC and NR-NTN, enabling a range from basic text transmission to 5G satellite connectivity capable of streaming video and large file transfers. The article notes peak download speeds of up to 14.79 Gbps, with bandwidth aggregation up to 380 MHz on the FR1 band, and up to 11.2 Gbps on the FR1-only scenario.
It also states the chip integrates ROM-based hybrid post-quantum cryptography and a dedicated secure element to encrypt sensitive data such as IMEI numbers. The piece adds that Samsung’s Exynos 2600 design does not integrate a 5G modem, so the Galaxy S26 is expected to adopt a discrete configuration using the Exynos 5410 as a standalone modem.
