Firefox Launches One-Click Rollback for Add-ons

The Mozilla Foundation has announced a new one-click rollback/restore feature for Firefox Add-ons, enabling developers to revert swiftly to any previously approved version. The update is designed to help address critical errors in new extension releases, with all versions published to the Firefox Add-ons store already requiring approval.

If a newly released version contains a severe flaw, developers can fix and resubmit, but the new rollback option lets them instantly revert to an earlier version and have Firefox automatically redistribute the stable release to users. The feature also helps mitigate a security concern around cryptocurrency hijacking by allowing developers who detect compromises to rapidly revert their add-ons and limit potential damage.

To perform a rollback, an extension must have at least two previously approved versions, and developers navigate to the Status and Versions page to select the rollback option, choosing any one of the approved versions if multiple exist. This improvement marks a significant safeguard for stability and trust for both developers and users. September 24, 2025.
