Google Chrome 144 Patches High-Severity “Race” Condition in V8 Engine
Google Chrome has released version 144.0.7559.96/0.97 for Windows and Mac, with Linux receiving 144.0.7559.96, to fix a single high-severity vulnerability described as a “Race in V8.” The flaw resides in V8, Google’s JavaScript and WebAssembly engine, and a race condition could, in theory, allow memory corruption, potentially crashing the browser or enabling arbitrary code execution if exploited.
The update targets CVE-2026-1220 and, as is standard practice, details remain limited until a majority of users are updated. Users are encouraged not to wait for the automatic rollout and can manually trigger the update via Menu > Help > About Google Chrome; the browser will download the new build and prompt a relaunch, after which the patch becomes active. This follows Google’s routine security update cadence for the Stable channel to protect Chrome users across supported platforms.
