Uvalde CISD to close most of next week due to ransomware issue

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District will close for most of next week after detecting ransomware in its servers, according to district officials, with closure planned from 15 September to 18 September and the district swapping those dates with other already scheduled non-working days in the UCISD calendar.

KSAT reports that the ransomware is affecting several essential online systems, including phones, thermostats, camera monitoring and visitor management systems, which the district says are vital to maintaining community safety. No group has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack yet. DataBreaches[.]net notes the district’s reference to the community’s traumatic history, though it does not attribute motive to any actor. The piece highlights that the interruptions impact core services used to operate the school district and keep safety systems functioning.
