Utimaco Survey Finds 78% of US Companies Name Legacy Data Breaches the Top Gen AI Risk

ACCORDING to a Utimaco press release, 78% of the 250 large U.S. companies surveyed say data breaches are the greatest risk associated with generative AI that must be addressed in the next 12 months, while 57% have not yet implemented countermeasures. The survey, commissioned by Utimaco ahead of the RSA Conference in San Francisco, found a preparedness gap in quantum security as 72% identify legacy data attacks as the greatest quantum issue and 75% remain unprepared.

It also notes that AI is widely used, with more than 90% of respondents reporting AI in daily production operations and 63% on a hybrid IT infrastructure with strategic public cloud workloads, according to the respondents. Not surprisingly, data breaches and intellectual property theft are seen as the two biggest security risks in GenAI, with 78% naming data breaches as the top problem and 77% concerned about IP theft, according to respondents. The findings were published on 24 March 2026 in Aachen, Germany and San Francisco, according to the Utimaco survey.
