OpenAI Turns ChatGPT Into a “Super App” with the New Apps SDK Integration
At OpenAI’s DevDay, the company unveiled its Apps SDK, a developer toolkit that lets third‑party applications integrate directly into ChatGPT, transforming the chat assistant into a platform capable of operating across a wide range of services. The first wave of integrations includes Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma and Zillow, with additional apps such as DoorDash, OpenTable, Target and Uber confirmed for rollout in the coming weeks.
Through the Apps SDK, developers will be able to submit their own apps for inclusion within ChatGPT and even establish paid models, fostering a monetisable ecosystem, according to OpenAI. In practice, users can, for example, ask Spotify to create a playlist and have the system prompt a link to open Spotify for playback, while Canva enables generation of promotional posters from ideas discussed inside a chat.
OpenAI emphasised that the Apps SDK turns ChatGPT into a true command hub capable of interacting with diverse external services, with initial account authorisation ensuring security and personalised functionality. As broader third‑party access is planned later this year, ChatGPT is edging toward a true “super app” status that bridges creativity, lifestyle and entertainment.
