LOSFA sends out letter to students warning of ‘data security incident’ involving information
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) has sent a letter to students warning of a data security incident in which authorized access to certain LOSFA systems occurred and an unauthorized party accessed or removed certain files. The letter, dated 5 December, states that the files contained information such as recipients’ names and Social Security numbers, although the START Saving Program and 529 savings accounts were not involved.
According to WBRZ, LOSFA did not immediately disclose how many people were affected and provided a link to a prior LOSFA statement issued after an October cyber attack, with a follow-up note noting the situation on 17 November. The full letter appears on WBRZ. The reporting highlights that LOSFA is investigating the incident and emphasises that certain sensitive information was included in the affected files.
