Hackers Steal Sensitive Data From Auction House Sotheby’s
According to SecurityWeek, Sotheby’s disclosed a data breach in which hackers stole highly sensitive personal information from its systems, with an intrusion discovered on 24 July. The investigation found that files containing name, SSN and financial account data were taken. The notice sent to affected individuals offers 12 months of free credit monitoring.
The total number of affected people has not been disclosed, though the Maine AG has been informed that two Maine residents are impacted and Massachusetts records indicate 10 residents are affected, suggesting the total may be small. It remains unclear whether the victims were employees or customers, and it is also unclear whether Sotheby’s was the target of a ransomware attack, with no group claiming responsibility.
