Core Failure: Windows 11 Update KB5062553 is Causing System, Start Menu, and Explorer Crashes
A Daily CyberSecurity piece published on 24 November 2025 reports that Windows 11 version 24H2 may exhibit numerous issues after installing the July 2025 update KB5062553, with any system updated on or after 8 July 2025 potentially affected. According to Microsoft’s support document, various apps such as StartMenuExperiencehost, Search, SystemSettings, Taskbar or Explorer might experience difficulties, and the underlying problems extend to 24H2 and 25H2 releases sharing the same core.
The root cause is linked to updates to Windows XAML components and packages, including MicrosoftWindows[.]Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy, Microsoft.UI[.]Xaml.CBS_8wekyb3d8bbwe, and MicrosoftWindows[.]Client.Core_cw5n1h2txyewy. Reported symptoms include file explorer process crashes, shellhost.exe failures, StartMenuExperienceHost crashes, system settings failing to launch, and several XAML-related view initialisation issues, among others. A temporary workaround is provided in the referenced support document, with PowerShell commands listed to mitigate the problem for affected users.
