Dark Web Profile: Orion Ransomware

Orion Ransomware is a newly observed operation identified after the emergence of a previously unknown ransomware Data Leak Site, with the group publicly listing 13 alleged victims at the time of discovery. According to SOCRadar, analysis indicates there is no evidence of original ransomware development or independently verified intrusions, and its public footprint is largely confined to leak-site activity and promotional messaging rather than demonstrated operational capability.

The profile notes an “exclusive affiliate program” and recruitment language that resembles access brokerage and data extortion, but lacks technical detail about payloads or control panels, suggesting Orion may be trying to attract affiliates before proving legitimate tooling.

The victim list overlaps with disclosures from established operations such as LockBit and BlackCat (ALPHV), and all listed organisations were previously published by other groups, implying reuse of leaked material rather than fresh compromises. Taken with overlaps to Babuk2, Orion is assessed as a low-confidence ransomware operation with elevated reputational noise, pending evidence of original intrusions or unique tooling.
