Law enforcement shuts down Cryptomixer in major crypto crime takedown
Europol announced the seizure of $29M in Bitcoin after shutting down Cryptomixer, a crypto-mixing service used for cybercrime and money laundering, which has allegedly helped launder over EUR 1.3 billion in Bitcoin since its creation in 2016. The operation, code-named Operation Olympia, was conducted by German and Swiss authorities from 24 to 28 November 2025 with support from Europol and Eurojust.
According to Europol’s press release, three servers were seized in Switzerland, the cryptomixer[.]io domain was taken, and the authorities confiscated over 12 terabytes of data and more than EUR 25 million worth of Bitcoin. Investigators believe Cryptomixer laundered around 152,000 BTC, with much of it linked to dark‑web markets, ransomware groups, illegal goods, child exploitation material and stolen crypto.
Ransomware gangs including Zeppelin, SunCrypt, Mamba, Dharma, and LockBit are named as having used the service to wash payments, although the article notes these as claims. The piece also recalls Europol’s 2023 takedown of Chipmixer as context for ongoing enforcement action. according to Europol press release
