Google is discontinuing its dark web report: why it matters

Google has announced that it will discontinue its dark web report, with new scans stopping on 15 January 2026 and the entire tool disappearing on 16 February 2026 along with all associated monitoring data. According to Google, the decision follows feedback indicating the reports did not provide “helpful next steps.” The move comes amid mixed reactions from users, some disappointed and others indifferent or relieved that alerting data will disappear.

The article notes that there is value in knowing what’s out there, but that there is no way to erase information already circulating on dark web forums. Malwarebytes promotes alternatives to help users stay aware and protect their data, including Personal Data Remover, Digital Footprint scans, and Identity Theft Protection.
