AI Waifu RAT Exploits Users with Advanced Social Engineering Tactics
AI Waifu RAT has emerged as a malware campaign that combines artificial intelligence with social engineering to target niche online communities, specifically LLM role-playing groups. Security researchers describe it as a remote access trojan masquerading as an innovative AI interaction tool, giving attackers full access to victims’ computers.
The threat actor, known by aliases including KazePsi and PsionicZephyr, framed themselves as a legitimate “CTF Crypto player” and researcher, building trust through community involvement and marketing the malware as a “meta experience” that would let AI characters break the fourth wall. Promised features included reading local files for “personalized role-playing” and direct “Arbitrary Code Execution” capabilities, which were presented as advanced features rather than security vulnerabilities.
The malware runs a local agent listening on port 9999, exposes endpoints such as /execute_trusted and /readfile, and attackers have urged users to disable antivirus or add the binary to exclusion lists, a classic social engineering tactic to bypass defenses.
