Still on Windows 10? Microsoft Is Rolling Out Your Last Chance for Security Updates
Microsoft has opened registration for the Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme to Windows 10 Home users. Some individuals who received the notification were able to pay $30 or redeem Microsoft Rewards points to activate the subscription, thereby enabling ESU on their systems. Once subscribed, users will continue to receive security patches beyond October 2025, with those who do not enroll set to stop receiving updates beginning in November 2025.
The rollout has been slow, and the vast majority of users have not yet seen a registration option, as Microsoft gradually expands availability. The company has pledged that the ESU registration wizard will be visible on all Windows 10 PCs by October 2025, at which point users will receive prompts to complete enrolment.
Currently, there are three official ways to obtain an ESU subscription: direct purchase for one year at $30, Microsoft Rewards offering a one-year license in exchange for 1,000 points, and a OneDrive Backup incentive that stores data in OneDrive to grant a free ESU subscription.
