Android AI Scam Defense Blocks 10 Billion Monthly Threats; Users 58% More Likely to Avoid Scam Texts Than iOS

According to Google, Android’s multi-layered protections now block over 10 billion suspected malicious calls and messages every month, preventing scams before they reach users. The platform’s RCS safety checks alone “blocked over 100 million suspicious numbers from using RCS” in the past month, a preemptive move to stop scams before delivery.

In a YouGov survey of 5,000 smartphone users across the U.S., India and Brazil, Android users were 58% more likely than iOS users to say they received no scam texts in the past week, with Pixel users also reporting higher confidence in protection. Google’s post describes how on-device intelligence and real-time behavioural analysis underpin protections for both messages and phone calls, including features such as automatic spam filtering and Call Screen.

The article notes a broader context of fraud, with Google stating that fraudsters’ use of advanced AI tools has contributed to over $400 billion in stolen funds globally in the last 12 months.
