THE Debian project recently conducted a vote regarding its policy on generative AI use. The outcome favored the 'Responsible Use of Generative AI', allowing developers to utilize AI tools without a prohibition. This policy states that while AI tools are neither encouraged nor banned, all contributions must adhere to existing quality and compliance standards. Importantly, developers remain fully responsible for any AI-generated output, ensuring they review and test it before submission.
Additionally, sensitive information must not be shared with third-party AI services, and any extensive automation must involve community discussion and oversight.
