Feds Seize $6.4M VerifTools Fake-ID Marketplace, but Operators Relaunch on New Domain
Authorities from the Netherlands and the United States have dismantled VerifTools, an illicit marketplace that sold counterfeit identity documents to cybercriminals worldwide, linking approximately $6.4 million of illicit proceeds to the operation.
Two marketplace domains, verif[.]tools and veriftools[.]net, plus a blog, were taken down and visitors redirected to a splash page stating the action was undertaken by the FBI pursuant to a warrant issued by a United States District Court; the servers were seized in Amsterdam. However, a Telegram post by the operators on 28 August 2025 showed they had already relaunched on the domain veriftools[.]com, which was created on 10 December 2018, according to DomainTools.
The DoJ said the FBI began investigating in 2022 after discovering an operation that generated counterfeit IDs for all 50 states and other countries, with items available for as little as $9. The Dutch National Police described VerifTools as one of the largest providers of false identity documents and noted extensive infrastructure seizure, including more than 21 virtual servers.
