PlayStation Launches Family App for Mobile Parental Controls
PlayStation has launched the PlayStation Family App, a dedicated mobile solution that extends the console’s parental controls to smartphones and tablets, enabling parents to manage their children’s gaming habits in real time. The guided setup helps with account binding, user age ratings, and restriction settings, making the app approachable for those less familiar with console-based controls.
Once configured, parents can set daily or weekly playtime limits, review gameplay history, manage spending caps for games and apps, and activate content filters to block age-inappropriate material, while also adjusting online privacy and social features. A real-time approve/deny mechanism lets parents see what game a child is playing and instantly adjust extended playtime or unlock titles, a feature expected to be frequently used for flexible scheduling.
Sony notes the rollout will begin globally in a phased manner, with download availability via the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, and a direct installation link provided if it does not appear immediately. This move follows similar offerings from Microsoft and Nintendo and aims to strengthen parental safeguards across PlayStation Network without requiring console sign‑in.
