Seamless Sign-In: Microsoft WebView2 Gets Entra ID for Enterprise Auth
On 10 December 2025, the Daily CyberSecurity article reports that Microsoft’s WebView2, the browser-based control used to embed web content in native Windows applications, will gain Entra ID authentication for enterprise sign‑in. Beginning with the cumulative update scheduled for December 2025, the Web Account Manager will support Microsoft Entra ID authentication within WebView2, allowing enterprise accounts to sign in seamlessly across WebView2‑based apps.
The piece notes that WebView2 is built on a Chromium‑based Edge engine and is already being rolled out across Microsoft applications such as Outlook and Teams, offering lower development overhead and cross‑platform compatibility. It also highlights advantages such as passwordless access, passkey login, and Conditional Access policies, along with better compatibility with third‑party identity providers.
According to Microsoft, administrators may enable WebView2 within the Microsoft Entra ID plug‑in once compatibility is confirmed, with future Windows authentication expected to be powered entirely by WebView2 as EdgeHTML‑based WebView controls are phased out.
