Scattered Spider Suspect Arrested in US
A juvenile suspected of being involved in cyberattacks against multiple Las Vegas casinos was arrested on 17 September 2025, and was booked on identity theft, extortion, and computer intrusion charges, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The attacks were attributed to the infamous hacking group Scattered Spider, with the FBI identifying a teenage male as the suspect.
The Clark County District Attorney’s Office is seeking to transfer the teenager to the criminal division to face the charges as an adult. This is the third suspected Scattered Spider group member to be arrested in about a week, after two individuals were arrested in the United Kingdom over similar suspicions.
In the UK, Thalha Jubair and Owen Flowers were charged over their roles in a September 2024 cyberattack on Transport for London; Jubair was later charged in the US with involvement in over 120 cyberattacks between May 2022 and September 2025, with more than $115 million in ransom payments reported. The Scattered Spider group recently announced its retirement, but the operation appears to remain active, currently targeting the financial sector.
