THE Maine Attorney General's Office has temporarily disabled its data breach portal due to fraudulent submissions related to reported data breaches. This system, which cataloged nearly 6,000 incidents since mid-2020, required organizations to report the total number of individuals affected nationwide. The fake reports involved claims that VRChat and Discord were breached, purportedly affecting 2.4 million and 10 million users, respectively.
Both companies confirmed the reports were false, with VRChat stating they had not experienced any security issues. The Attorney General emphasized the need to review procedures to prevent such abuse while maintaining public access to breach information, pending further investigations.
