A recent breach involving Beacon Mutual Insurance, which administers Rhode Island's workers' compensation, has compromised the personal information of approximately 132,000 individuals due to a January cyberattack. The breach has affected 131,000 Rhode Islanders, including 4,500 current and former state employees. Overall, around 162,000 individuals may have been impacted, including residents from various states such as Connecticut, Maryland, and New York.
The darkweb group INC Ransom claims to have acquired 275 GB of sensitive data, although there is no indication that encryption was involved in the attack.
