Binance reports a multi-chain hot wallet incident on 29 October 2026, with withdrawals leaving an estimated 6.3 billion dollars in crypto drawn from Binance’s hot wallets across around 10 blockchains. The company says about 3 billion dollars has been frozen on-chain, and Binance plans to cover the remaining losses from the SAFU fund and company resources.

Evidence described by Binance indicates withdrawals were signed via Binance’s own signing infrastructure, implying the operation was staged to bypass controls and executed in a coordinated burst across chains within roughly 20 minutes.

Initial investigation points to a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop that granted access to a service container used to submit withdrawals. Binance states there is no evidence of a wallet private key leak. Independent blockchain analysts have attributed the theft to TraderTraitor, a North Korea-linked cluster, though Binance and government bodies have not confirmed this attribution.

The attacker’s on-chain activity shows a rapid cross‑chain sweep, with significant funds later frozen by market participants and issuers, while roughly 2.4 billion dollars remained under attacker control as of 00:30 UTC on 30 October. Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals and indicated it would publish a technical post-mortem and updated Proof of Reserves.
