MICROSOFT has released the out-of-band Windows 11 KB5129195 update for versions 24H2 and 25H2. The update addresses instability introduced by the recent September patch, including failures affecting Remote Desktop Services (RDS). Microsoft said RDS could become unstable, causing Remote Desktop Protocol connections and sign-ins to fail, or servers to become unresponsive while Remote Desktop was being configured. The release also restores stability to Microsoft Management Console and File Explorer.
KB5129195 includes protections for CVE-2026-62721, an Elevation of Privilege vulnerability in the Windows User-Mode Power Service (UMPS). The article says the flaw could previously allow an attacker to gain deeper access to a compromised system, but it does not report confirmed exploitation. The update also fixes a Hyper-V issue in which folders shared through Plan9 failed to appear inside Linux guest environments, as well as problems affecting multichannel USB audio.
Microsoft said some audio problems remain under investigation: certain USB Audio Class 1.0 devices may fail to start or produce sound, generating Code 10 errors. Administrators managing Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 systems should consult Microsoft’s KB5129195 documentation and schedule deployment, with testing as appropriate for their environments.
