Microsoft Ends Windows 11 24H2 Support for Consumers in October 2026

CyberSIXT Evidence Panel

MICROSOFT has announced the end of life for Windows 11 consumer editions running version 24H2, with lifecycle support terminating on 13 October 2026. The final security update for these builds (KB5127648) has already been issued, and Microsoft will stop delivering security patches or bug fixes for 24H2 from November 2026 onward.

The article notes that the consumer line-up affected includes Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations, which typically receive around 18 months of support as newer builds are released.

The enterprise and education track, by contrast, receives an extended one‑year lifecycle, allowing organisations to operate 24H2 until 12 October 2027. Microsoft still advises organisations to upgrade to newer builds well in advance to avoid compatibility issues associated with last-minute upgrades. For consumers, the recommended upgrade path is to move to Windows 11 25H2 or 26H2, although 26H2 is currently in phased rollout.

The article emphasises that 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2 share the same foundational architecture, so overall system compatibility remains similar despite changes in user-facing features. It suggests prioritising 25H2 for stability before transitioning to 26H2 when it becomes fully available.

The piece also includes an “Active Exploits in the Wild” section listing several CVEs such as CVE-2026-110447, CVE-2026-92707, CVE-2026-104935 and others, alongside brief notes on affected products and CVSS contexts. The tone distinguishes confirmed exploitation from potential impact and presents upgrade and rollout details as practical response guidance rather than broader security advisories.
