FOLLOWING a cyberattack on the SharePoint servers operated by the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT), external internet access has been blocked for those outside the federal administration. About 200 accounts were compromised, but there are no signs of further data breaches. The attackers allegedly exploited vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint software, which had known security issues reported in mid-July. The FOITT has begun implementing the necessary security updates. SharePoint is primarily used for collaboration and file storage.
